About

Goal
The goal of NAS-Tweaks.net is to allow owners of small Network-Attached Storage (NAS) devices to communicate with each other about technical- or usage matters related to their device. We hope the site will also help the developers who create these devices to learn about user issues and enable developers and users to informally communicate.

Scope
The site intends to inform about tips, FAQs, tutorials and issues of the devices. A forum is available to ask questions or for general discussion.

The scope is currently limited to small devices, mostly boxes with two slots for SATA drives which run a small version of Linux on a ARM processor. We may extend the scope in the future to include other NAS devices – especially that that run very similar software on very similar hardware.

Independence
NAS-Tweaks has no affiliation with the manufacturer or distributers of the NAS devices. Representatives of these companies are however encouraged to use the site to collect user feedback and to communicate with “their” users in general. Such representatives are requested to clearly indicate their affiliation in their signature or user name to avoid misunderstandings.

History
This site was created by Uli (who is the site administrator and who registered the NAS-Tweaks domain name) with the help of PeterH.

  1. Hello – great site, thanks for the excellent info.

    The webpage

    https://nas-tweaks.net/40/installation-of-the-fonz-funplug-0-5-for-ch3snas-ch3mnas-dns-323-and-many-more/

as rendered in my browser (Chrome 16.0.912.77 m) repeats after the first “Fun_plug and user accounts” header, with the line:

“Note that the initial execution of the fun_plug script creates a new usThe Conceptronic CH3SNAS run…”

and goes on to repeat most of the content above. Just any FYI.

    Kind regards,

    pf

  2. First, I want to thank you for your tutorials which helped me to tweak my old dns-313 very easily. I’ve tried so many times before with no success but now I am following your tutorials everything is running smoothly.
I’d like to make a request. I’d like to install irssi but couldn’t make it to work. I’ve tried to follow the instructions here : http://forum.dsmg600.info/viewtopic.php?id=5421 but I’ve failed.
So maybe if you have some times to spend on it you could make again our life a little bit easier 😉

  3. HOwdy,

Thanks for the tutorils, they are great!

Since I had great success with Twonky install, I was wondering if there could be a tutorial for ‘SERVIIO’, since Java is an option with the FONZ FUN_PLUG.

I love that Twonky works, but I don’t like that it doesn’t not have any rewind or Fast-forward controls. I heard Serviio does, so I was wondering if there is a way to install it on a DNS-345.

    Thanks n Cheers.

  4. hello trying to get a c compiler working on my dns320 funz .7 .does anyone have some links to what packages are required.

  5. About a DNS-320L with last firmware and FFPlug.
Is it safe to power off the NAS using the front switch? (i.e. properly close/halt all the running NAS processes?)

  6. finally got my dns 320l working thanks to this site. Brilliant thanks. Does anyone know what is the best software to access content via mobile without having the computer on? at the moment i can access all my music, but only whilst the computer is on.

  7. Well I followed this guide to the letter , have installed fun_plug and the packages but see no way of actually launching any of the packages. Nothing appears on the web gui of the NAS so I am now stuck have done a fair bit of searching but nowhere can i find info on how to launch the add-ons?

  8. Hello,
Great blog:)) but I have a question, mayby can you help me, is possible to install on nsa 320 Insyc? They have version for arm (armel build) what you think will be working on this Nsa?

  9. I have reinstalled fun-plug many times but this time I cannot connect via SSH. I get the following I have tried several times but I get the message each time.
Unable to negotiate with 192.168.1.105 port 22: no matching host key type found. Their offer: ssh-dss
    Any ideas?

  10. I have solved the issue by adding “ssh -oHostKeyAlgorithms=+ssh-dss” without quotes to the PC’s /etc/ssh/ssh_config file.

  11. Hello Uli, I just wanted to say thank you for all the effort you put in fun-plug. It’s been very useful for me so far and I can’t say thank you enough. I just wanted to point out a problem with your site, in single view on every post the page doesn’t load past the definition of the favicon. It’s probably an error in your header.php in the theme you’re using for WordPress.

Hope you’ll find the time to fix it..

  12. Hi,
compliment for the great work done!
    I’m running on a Dlink DNS340L with firmware 1.08 (05/02/2018)
I’m wondering if your fun_plug can be compatible with it and wich version.
    Thank you
    Mik

  13. Hello Uli,

thank you so very much for this great project.
I once installed it many times, but now after using a more actual hardware for about two years I missed the great features a linux shell on my dns devices (325, 320, 320l) provide. So I remembered great fun_plug and installed it again.
But neither slacker nor wget seem to work correct nowadays.
Are there any chances to reactivate these great antique devices?
