D-Link DNS-345 Sharecenter Quattro – A new 4-Bay NAS

DNS-345 FrontToday i’ve search through the various country-FTP-sites of D-Link and found a few hints regarding a new NAS from D-Link, the DNS-345. The NAS is a 4-Bay-NAS featuring nearly everything you might dream of. But i’ll beginn from the start.

According to the Datasheet (Mirror) and the Manual (Mirror), the DNS-345 can hold up to 12TB of S-ATA-Harddisks (4*3TB) which can be configured as RAID 1/5/5+Hotspare/10/Single Disk/JBOD. The data can be transferred using the two 10/100/1000Mbit Ethernet Ports, which can be configured for Link Aggregation in various modes.

The Front bezel contains a OLED Display with 128×32 Pixels resolution which can show various informations about the current state of the device like the System Information/Temperature, LAN/Volume status and USB Backups.

The device weights 2.7kg, it’s dimensions are (W*D*H) 128 x 200 x 178 mm. It operates from 0°C to 40°C. The external power adapter provides 19V with 4.74A; the NAS consumes about 53W in normal operation and 13.5W in Sleep mode.

The most important thing: The device is fun_plug-enabled!

    1. Hi @Hans,
I have a DNS-345. I was wondering about fans noise too, but, from my current experience the fans start just on boot and then go down. Only one time I heard the fans start, but just for few seconds.
I did not made some stress test by I have uploaded a lot of files continuously and the fans never started.

  1. Hiya. Was about to purchase the 325 until I saw this badboy. RAID 5 makes much more sense to me regarding capacity and wastage. Anyone know if this is the same setup as the 320/325 I would like to install fun plug, twonky 6 etc?

  2. Thx for the info Uli. This unit looks awesome. Have you seen one or read full spec from anywhere? Wonder also if it does WOL…

  3. Cracking site all,
Im gutted to see this page tho, I just bought the DNS-320 a week ago for some cheap NAS Storage. Had I known about this I would have opted for this instead.
Oh well, cant complain too much as I paid £60 from Amazon for mine.

  4. Got one last week at SGD$339 for the reliability (I have a 323) and ability to run slimserver/squeezeserver.

Funplug installs, need to put in the patch for the passwords. However, sshd does not start on its own, looking into it now.

  5. Can you advise if I can upgrade the hdds to a bigger capacity on the fly?
I want to start with 2x 1TB hdds-RAID1 and maybe upgrade to 4x2TB hdds -RAID1
    Many Thanks

  6. I have had a Dns-345 for almost a year now and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

When I want to power up the Dns-345 I press the power button and wait for the drives to initialise..after that there is an infinite amount of waiting for the dns-345 to start up (stop flashing up the “Welcome to D-Link Sharecenter” on the front display)..
This flashing NEVER stops unless I force the unit to power down by unplugging the power cable from behind the dns-345 and then re-attach the power cable.
Then when I press the power button on the front of the unit it goes through it’s start-up normally and functions perfectly.

Can someone please help with this problem?

    1. Hi Mike,

i have not had this issue, sorry. Which firmware are you running? Otherwise i would guess that this is a hardware issue.

      Best Regards,
      Uli

    1. Hello Salman,

this depends on the services you want to use. A “naked NAS” (so only samba services) goes about ~50MB read and 35-40MBs write.

      Best Regards,
      Uli

  7. Not sure how “live” this forum still is but to answer Salman:
I just bought it and only had some weird problem with acces while watching a movie that was on the NAS (movie suddenly stopped everytime around 30 minutes) and copying large files or a lot of files(acces denied error during copying).
This happened after I installed the original newest firmware from the d-link website (v1.01 b09). Took quite a while to figure out the problem was the firmware(I firstly went over every possible setting regarding my PC’s and the NAS, reinstalling, resetting and testing…).
I downloaded some new beta firmware I found while actually searching for the old original firmware (v1.00xxx I think)
The firmware I use now is v1.02b04 and it added loads of functionality AND most of all the weird problem was gone.
I’m now very happy with the device. Only thing that could be annoying is the noise of the coolingfans, but in my case I dont mind much. Might be just a matter of getting used to I guess, but if I can tweak it or replace the fans or something I’ll surely try 🙂

  8. a good-looking and easy to set up, (mine is now raid-5) nas appliance which also is mac-friendly, though you wouldn’t know it from the box text …

my problem is I want to copy everything from a nas4free server to it using rsync on the command line – less of a headache for me than figuring out the nas-to-nas backup / modules, etc.

but where does this system mount its logical volume ? when i ssh in to the busybox root id, all i can see in /mnt seem to be the individual disks and there’s no ‘Volume_1’ in the /dev directory either …

hoping for a quick, smart answer – user ‘uli’ seems to be the man with the answers here …. 🙂 or anyone else … please help 🙂 thanks in advance 🙂
